Getting My AF On

Yup, that's right, she came. I thought it would be difficult for me, a reminder of sorts, but it wasn't. I was relieved actually that my body was working and ahead of schedule. I was planning on asking my local RE today for a prescription fro Pro.vera to bring on AF anyway so I was expecting this. I will admit that even though I knew it was impossible as my hcg is still positive, I thought maybe; but no and I'm ok with that. HCG came in today at 16.14 so it is dropping, at least that's something.

As soon as I realized AF was here, I immediately called CCRM to book my hysteroscopy. It's all set, A. and I leave for Denver on Sunday, spend the afternoon at CCRM on Monday and return home on Tuesday. I have to admit that I'm excited. We are treating it like a mini vacation and even managed to splurge on something we always talked about...the In.verness.

I thought it would be a good idea to stay with an outdoor pool as we will have a lot of down time (I have no interest in seeing the sights this time around) and so we decided to just book it. They have lower rates on weekends (Fri and Sat), but they said they would give me the weekend rate for Sun and the regular rate for Mon so it isn't so bad really. See how I justify?

I'm feeling pretty good right now. Things will hopefully fall into place. My plan is to have the hysteroscopy on Day 8 and I am also going to inquire about the possibility of having the endometrial biopsy done at the same time. If you have experience with this please let me know...especially about the pain part.

So for now, I'm in a decent place and getting ready to pick up the pieces and move forward.

  1. Ah sweet!! That's so awesome that AF came earlier than you had anticipated! That just means closer to the end...cool.

  2. I had a hysteroscopy following my first miscarriage. The doc threw in a Pap smear, too, since he was down there (literally, his words, not mine). ANYWAY. I won't lie, it was uncomfortable and there was some pain. Nothing unbearable, but I remember having to squeeze Mo's hand a few times and wincing, despite having been given pain meds ahead of time. Once it was over, though, I didn't have any continuing pain from it. It may have to do with technique, I don't know. My doc is usually pretty good, though I always feel a little pain during transfer (which is kind of what this felt like, just a longer process).

I did get the opportunity to see my own ovaries and ute up close -- which was weird and kind of gross. And fascinating at the same time. So, there's that.

I have no experience with a biopsy, as all my endo was taken during a lap (for which I was under).

Wishing you the best of luck, and a pain-free procedure.

    Big hugs,
    Jo

  3. Yay for AF! And so glad you could get in quickly for the hysteroscopy.

I had an endo biopsy for the beta 3 intergrin test, and it hurt while they were doing it (30-45 seconds, max), and mild crampy after. I was also a little mildly crampy after the hystero too, so maybe I'm just a baby. I took 800mg of Advil an hour before both procedures, and I think that helped with the aftermath.

I'm hoping it all looks good in there!!

  4. Woohoo for AF showing up early!! I hope that your hysteroscopy goes well & that it's not too painful.

I had a spa treatment at The Inverness. It's a gorgeous hotel! They have a restaurant that's supposed to be incredible that I'm planning on going to next trip. I love your idea of turning this trip into a little mini vacation.

  7. Since you like it to be real, I hated the hysteroscopy and they act like it is no big deal. I bled a lot after mine too. All these comments will make you that more prepared. Glad you both can go together and at least plan some time to enjoy yourselves.

  8. So glad that AF appeared on her own. Also, thrilled that CCRM can get you in so quickly. Yay for splurging on the Inverness. You'll have to let me know how it is. We might just follow suit for our FET next month.

I had really bad experiences with hysteroscopy with other RE's. I was so prepared for it during our ODW, but it ended up being a breeze with Dr Sch. The biopsy is VERY painful... but just for 30-45 seconds. This time I took 800mg of advil before hand and really didn't have any cramping after the fact. I hope the timing works out.

    Thinking of you!

  9. Yes, you should definitely take a bunch of ibuprofen beforehand!
I'm so glad that you got AF and were able to get scheduled so quickly. And I really hope we can get a chance to meet up while you are out here!

  10. I never stayed at the Inverness but looked at it many times and it looks so nice in the photos so I'm sure you'll be well taken care of there.

Hysteroscopy - I remember feeling uncomfortable in a bloated kind of way as they inflated my uterus with that gas to have a look around but other than that, it wasn't bad at all for me. I didn't bleed afterward and I did take some pain meds before but don't feel that I needed it in the end. As for the biopsy, I had that done locally and it was no big deal. Again, it was more uncomfortable but not painful for me. I felt a mild scraping sensation but it wasn't painful so I think I got lucky so I hope you don't find either procedure bad. Good luck!

  11. Very glad to hear that AF showed up and you can start moving on. I felt the same way after my m/c ~ I just wanted to move forward and start cycling again. It was one of the only times in my life I wanted that bitch to show up :)
You sound good. I hope you are feeling good too.
